While <a href="http://www.orangetownmuseum.com/" target="_blank">the museum</a>'s exhibition <i><a href="http://media.wix.com/ugd/623f0b_94e30ec86b1b4b7d9a2ad0f3996e0638.pdf" target="_blank">past/forward</a></i> is open to the public, every museum worker, including us volunteer members, has been taking care of their own project.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
One of my current projects is organizing information about a collection of lace, and entering it into our digital archive.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
The collection is called "The Lillian Rose Perry Collection." </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Ms. Lillian Rose Perry was a woman who lived in <a href="http://nyack-ny.gov/" target="_blank">Nyack</a>, Rockland County. Through a family member, a large number of her objects were donated to the Orangetown Museum.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
The lace collection I have been working on, is a part of her large collection.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Most of the objects are the Victorian style (American Victorian Era: 19th CE). Remnant from the era are still often seen in today's Nyack, where Ms. Perry lived.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
To work on this collection, I have been obtaining great help from one of our museum members who is a specialist of lace.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
She identifies types of lace, usage and handmade/machine made, by studying each piece from this large collection which contains approximately 400 pieces of works.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
This is a time-consuming project, but I have been enjoying these fascinating lace works while organizing them as one of our collections.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Here are some examples...</div>

The DePew House, where the Orangetown Museum is holding the exhibition "past/forward," is a historical sandstone building surrounded by woods on two sides.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Due to New York's lovely summer weather, the yard with grass and woods is showing its lusciousness now.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Sometimes,,, we have some wild visitors here.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Squirrels... chipmunks... woodpeckers... cardinals and... </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
... turkeys, too!!!<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEictLZZ0EK2RvIPU-tTASEL7IBd3_KAjg7oMKN1XmZEE-FFSyH7FQgAQHHia_MY69ihtrgLotcV9912RuW0nRB-O4BcJKUtYy9CrPk9Jlf7p49fR_TWOD1KQD9AyCYzIOqkZ1RurX3JpL3L/s1600/20160705_151538.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEictLZZ0EK2RvIPU-tTASEL7IBd3_KAjg7oMKN1XmZEE-FFSyH7FQgAQHHia_MY69ihtrgLotcV9912RuW0nRB-O4BcJKUtYy9CrPk9Jlf7p49fR_TWOD1KQD9AyCYzIOqkZ1RurX3JpL3L/s400/20160705_151538.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
It seems that several turkeys are living in the woods.<br />
They come out to the museum's yard once in a while and look for food.<br />
<br />
As long as we do not disturb them, these turkeys are fine with us.<br />
They usually walk around the yard for a while and go back to the woods beyond the bush.<br />
<br />
They are the museum's regular visitors now♪<br />

Beautiful early summer days are here in Rockland County, NY, too.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgZfbiBGoWhti128q-p3PZlfN12bZk3Oz9WmW68nnGwrCJvf5UVdgofLMXJfD2-YcwDWMMaLSceRJdEW_NjGM6dXjOM1cJ7ging_OhWA5IXy6j1TTO_UOZOGDm1NvpQ9dDzUNEyUPgaKiYV/s1600/IMG_20160614_204416.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgZfbiBGoWhti128q-p3PZlfN12bZk3Oz9WmW68nnGwrCJvf5UVdgofLMXJfD2-YcwDWMMaLSceRJdEW_NjGM6dXjOM1cJ7ging_OhWA5IXy6j1TTO_UOZOGDm1NvpQ9dDzUNEyUPgaKiYV/s400/IMG_20160614_204416.jpg" width="321" /></a></div>
<br />
When it was still snowing and cold, the museum was busy with preparing the exhibition <b><i><a href="http://media.wix.com/ugd/623f0b_94e30ec86b1b4b7d9a2ad0f3996e0638.pdf" target="_blank">past/forward</a></i></b>.<br />
Now it is no longer a time to long for the blue sky, and the exhibition has been open to the public since early May.<br />
The museum has gained a lot of favorable responses and the exhibition is successfully going on.<br />
<br />
<br />
Although, the museum is all done with the busy preparation time, museum staff have a lot to do outside the galley. <br />
<br />
One of the projects which I have been recently involved with, is called "Summer Boxing Project."<br />
To take care of this project, I went to <a href="http://museumdoors.blogspot.com/2016/03/the-salyer-house-another-site-for-museum.html" target="_blank">the Salyer House</a> with another museum staff member this week, bringing some supplies and a big book with the museum collection information with us.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjOQFYptyITBRcqD1-1itPnnn9jagm560eU1NZ4B4niA2ykAm5W3xT9YIx0PQL_VTuqjUpun1LxSaxnOGC_cF-M4V9HFgEYDVE1CJbJxDYpRPu0egWA8lGNLMvQNwzZBTdXclUsaVBbSXNa/s1600/summerproject1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="225" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjOQFYptyITBRcqD1-1itPnnn9jagm560eU1NZ4B4niA2ykAm5W3xT9YIx0PQL_VTuqjUpun1LxSaxnOGC_cF-M4V9HFgEYDVE1CJbJxDYpRPu0egWA8lGNLMvQNwzZBTdXclUsaVBbSXNa/s400/summerproject1.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
The Salyer House has the museum's storage space, besides its beautiful galleries. A large number of historical objects, which the museum has acquired, are stored there.<br />
<br />
What we had to do at the Salyer House's storage was going through the collection and checking if each object was properly stored in the right place (box, shelf, room) in the right way.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiHSRtGVtsS9kUcBYYPEqkO2bi3ChP1skZ64GnZeMdigwyMNGZt32NSsxQR075SHtYUE67STMaZ_cnRUJ12UglsR6d3yWso0nUuYvwyzdDZqQUVfGQ14l1Qizehpx8d9f3QFtNGfJN-4mmL/s1600/summerproject2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="225" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiHSRtGVtsS9kUcBYYPEqkO2bi3ChP1skZ64GnZeMdigwyMNGZt32NSsxQR075SHtYUE67STMaZ_cnRUJ12UglsR6d3yWso0nUuYvwyzdDZqQUVfGQ14l1Qizehpx8d9f3QFtNGfJN-4mmL/s400/summerproject2.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
On that day, we mainly worked on a few large boxes which consisted of textiles such as women's dresses, jackets, skirts and match-up accessories.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiilu1DP3Sx5xpx3MH_BY601bB3bU7fDXG971oDi1tcHqlatstlZXL9oKaDmSPJlNBZZ7VlSCwG3VniUm8zOrixMmFtqyRAlARD2b5K_t2AEiCi_Ibev9YVUR4rfwJ1KUkBlE0RXv9lqJ-N/s1600/summerproject3.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="225" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiilu1DP3Sx5xpx3MH_BY601bB3bU7fDXG971oDi1tcHqlatstlZXL9oKaDmSPJlNBZZ7VlSCwG3VniUm8zOrixMmFtqyRAlARD2b5K_t2AEiCi_Ibev9YVUR4rfwJ1KUkBlE0RXv9lqJ-N/s400/summerproject3.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
We carefully opened the boxes, removed the textiles and checked the condition including wrapping and tagging.<br />
Some textiles, such as a silk wedding dress and its tulle veil, were extremely fragile... They required extra attention during this project.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgO65N_VqN-FstgyP4yqbUQ8Fe_7SHs8wS3f8JqY_VB_G1VlzGi3J-WgmSXm5rRK5XmrVpXuSBRqu1pR0thqtaCGODOR-fc0sPENv9KGt7tOt0Fw-rjOf1drYCqYPnqPFy8ZhIWbACXpJNX/s1600/summerproject4.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="225" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgO65N_VqN-FstgyP4yqbUQ8Fe_7SHs8wS3f8JqY_VB_G1VlzGi3J-WgmSXm5rRK5XmrVpXuSBRqu1pR0thqtaCGODOR-fc0sPENv9KGt7tOt0Fw-rjOf1drYCqYPnqPFy8ZhIWbACXpJNX/s400/summerproject4.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
After checking the objects one by one, we also had to remember to make a note for all the small information found, so that the information in the digital archive on the computer was also going to be updated properly.<br />
<br />
It was very time-consuming work, so that we could not finish many boxes at once.<br />
However, it was also an interesting project for me to join because this is a great chance to see the museum's precious collections which I have never seen yet.<br />
<br />
Also, I personally feel that this project reminds me of the monthly inventory day during my managerial career in retail industry.<br />This collection management "Summer Boxing Project" seems a little more complicated because of the location information, but at the same time, it is more simple because we do not deal with calculating the value based on each price, unlike retail's inventory.<br />
<br />
I do not mind continuing working doing similar procedures again and again, as long as I can see that I am making progress and getting closer to having everything make sense.<br />
<br />
So,,, I think I can enjoy the project this summer :-)<br />
<br />
Even when the museum's exhibition is all set and smoothly running, we have many tasks to do.<br />There is one more project I have been working on recently. I will talk about that another time♪<br />
<br /><br />

After my school internship with <a href="http://www.orangetownmuseum.com/" target="_blank">the Orangetown Museum</a>, which was from late January to early May, I fulfilled my experience as an intern at the museum and also graduated from college last month.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
It was very very nice and sweet that the museum's curator and the director had planned to take us (another worker who also completed her Master's this Spring, and me) to a celebration lunch one day.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
The venue chosen for our feast was one of the most historic places in this historical area, <a href="http://76house.com/" target="_blank">the Old '76 House</a> in <a href="http://www.orangetownmuseum.com/#!tappan/c96x" target="_blank">Tappan</a>.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhchURcYJT6h3Lf7shfu1kWhsiQjIM0zAc1NNL_kz8kj0it1y3H7ZQ4U_Blt5nfGZH8z7zeHpZ2KI9U6pPbnxUPC2CuMEpntFd-sOTq9hKynLBOjCB55PfOZ85rdhvRk9MPNJYhnQoqm-Pf/s1600/76.1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="225" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhchURcYJT6h3Lf7shfu1kWhsiQjIM0zAc1NNL_kz8kj0it1y3H7ZQ4U_Blt5nfGZH8z7zeHpZ2KI9U6pPbnxUPC2CuMEpntFd-sOTq9hKynLBOjCB55PfOZ85rdhvRk9MPNJYhnQoqm-Pf/s400/76.1.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
I have heard of the restaurant, but it was my first time to go there to eat, so I was very excited about that.<br />
<br />
<br />
According to the restaurant, it is <a href="http://76house.com/about/" target="_blank">"New York's oldest tavern"</a> which was built in 1668. The building itself was already fascinating and romantic to me, who grew up in Asia.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiDJFANY3sLI9hgpWWR-s92UQiY30775tQ7c1FfTlrK77_e1VujcUXAlXij2xFxQ9p0qW-ATqSvM9tngIxQIl0PdDeDJAlwPr_xAuimK7APTKYCArzZeWV-GMS_xfw-LxweqKH6jex03H5H/s1600/76.3.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="225" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiDJFANY3sLI9hgpWWR-s92UQiY30775tQ7c1FfTlrK77_e1VujcUXAlXij2xFxQ9p0qW-ATqSvM9tngIxQIl0PdDeDJAlwPr_xAuimK7APTKYCArzZeWV-GMS_xfw-LxweqKH6jex03H5H/s400/76.3.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
In addition to the beauty of the building, the history the restaurant has, makes this place more special.<br />
<br />
During the American Revolutionary War, a British Major, John Andre, was captured and charged with spying, and taken into custody, here, in the restaurant, until the day of his execution.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiYOH0YD9eGS7jkKlQ7Sik_vrbJpQ5HPjX-d9SgYezRc_vZrqNIswuDvKlIvxF4iTdc436CgCKGg5hwe-Nqz9wBFR5DcKKUzC_4xRl4gi_SsmIyq6Hco6nR2kvaNB7y1APG9NhKDzpNyrbN/s1600/76.2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="225" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiYOH0YD9eGS7jkKlQ7Sik_vrbJpQ5HPjX-d9SgYezRc_vZrqNIswuDvKlIvxF4iTdc436CgCKGg5hwe-Nqz9wBFR5DcKKUzC_4xRl4gi_SsmIyq6Hco6nR2kvaNB7y1APG9NhKDzpNyrbN/s400/76.2.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
Major Andre spent his last moment in the building and was put to death by hanging on the hill nearby.<br />
<br />
<br />
The restaurant is also known as a haunted location.<br />
Fortunately and unfortunately, I have neither seen, heard nor felt any ghost-like substance in my life,,, so I do not think I can tell if it is true.<br />
However, the very pleasant and well-informed servers at the restaurant, would be willing to tell you history of the house and ghost stories as well.<br />
<br />
We enjoyed the restaurant's interesting stories over nice meal in the great atmosphere.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi3SrX8GH83xhigJ6tQLekJmtrVeZSlXuyBDkEsjFchhpC1IbUS1A2o8Z8u2aDLpLfPY2w5sG9b2x3YQ5je9RcPa_gKUrlBr1tAcBpM4xE8YC20k_OMZKP5A1lBxtNIEo8OATMYavpMpc1Q/s1600/76.4.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="225" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi3SrX8GH83xhigJ6tQLekJmtrVeZSlXuyBDkEsjFchhpC1IbUS1A2o8Z8u2aDLpLfPY2w5sG9b2x3YQ5je9RcPa_gKUrlBr1tAcBpM4xE8YC20k_OMZKP5A1lBxtNIEo8OATMYavpMpc1Q/s400/76.4.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
It was so nice that I could go to the restaurant for the first time and had a good time with the museum people.<br />
<br />
Although my internship schedule is already over, I continue to work as one of the volunteer members of the Orangetown Museum, so I will be updating this blog as well♪<br />
<br />
Thank you very much for reading this blog always, and please visit us again!<br />

How was your Memorial Day weekend?<br /><br />Since last week, it has suddenly become summer-like climate here in Rockland County.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
We have been enjoying beautiful, ready-for-BBQ weather recently.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Fresh green nature is now back to the museum, so I spent a little time taking some pictures of the exterior of our DePew House during my volunteer time.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
One of the pictures I took, is now on <a href="http://www.orangetownmuseum.com/" target="_blank">the home page of the museum website</a> and showing our house in the beautiful summer atmosphere. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjGPms4pg2gDCWz-ehLtKP4mdsaKY1l0fgNTWrQqdks8J9MoJZSAR4zNrytXHnptiQCdPQASdboY3HlUm6BUvLIzy5Hya_zan5f6ieoZX4kPxlDCgVMADTl4fUoopbh-4finsW_OmaWGNLY/s1600/20160531_135921.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="225" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjGPms4pg2gDCWz-ehLtKP4mdsaKY1l0fgNTWrQqdks8J9MoJZSAR4zNrytXHnptiQCdPQASdboY3HlUm6BUvLIzy5Hya_zan5f6ieoZX4kPxlDCgVMADTl4fUoopbh-4finsW_OmaWGNLY/s400/20160531_135921.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
Also, we have uploaded 12 selected pictures of the current exhibition <a href="http://media.wix.com/ugd/623f0b_94e30ec86b1b4b7d9a2ad0f3996e0638.pdf" target="_blank"><i><b>past/forward</b></i></a> under <a href="http://www.orangetownmuseum.com/#!exhibits/c1o7t" target="_blank">"EXHIBITS"</a> on the website.<br />
<br />
As a part of my volunteer experience, I worked on photographing the museum gallery and preparing pictures as well.<br />Then, the chosen pictures are shown with caption added by the curator.<br />
<br />
Please visit <a href="http://www.orangetownmuseum.com/" target="_blank">our website</a> and explore history of the museum and the Orangetown.<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
The museum is open to public on Tesdays (10am - 2pm) and Sundays (1pm - 4pm) at the DePew House.<br />All the visitors are welcome to the exhibition <b style="font-style: italic;"><a href="http://media.wix.com/ugd/623f0b_94e30ec86b1b4b7d9a2ad0f3996e0638.pdf" target="_blank">past/forward</a> </b>with free admission.Masako Birminghamhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16526588675993168709noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8655002609391863363.post-43635179634244583942016-05-13T22:38:00.000-04:002016-05-13T22:38:08.267-04:00Preparing the Salyer House for the Education Program<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
The current exhibition, <i style="font-weight: bold;">past/forward, </i>at the <a href="http://www.orangetownmuseum.com/" target="_blank">Orangetown Museum</a>, was successfully launched by holding an opening reception last week.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
The show is on view on Tuesdays (10am - 2pm) and Sundays (1pm to 4pm) at the <a href="http://www.orangetownmuseum.com/#!our_story/c18bc" target="_blank">DePew House</a>.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Even when the museum is all done with exhibition installation, there are more things to set up for various purposes.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
For 3 days in next week, the museum is going to welcome 7th-grade students from South Orangetown Middle School.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
The students are visiting the Salyer House on their field trip and the museum's will give them a tour and a history lecture on site.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Prior to this educational program for the students, we worked on setting up the gallery in the house this week.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
To enrich the exhibit, we picked a mid-19th CE dress from the museum's collection and added it to the Salyer House's gallery.</div>

This dress is made of cotton fabric with flower prints.<br />
The rich design formed with plenty of fabric and elaborate details, such as a number of pintucks and puffy sleeves, were all created by hand stitches. <br />

<br />
The show is organized based on a theme "preservation" of the town history and importance of passing it on to the future.<br />

Beside introducing historical materials, the museum is taking a new approach to this show as a history museum of the town.<br />
<br />
The exhibition is containing contemporary artworks by a young Dutch artist, Nynke Koster.<br />
<br />
Her works were created by casting architectural parts. Fragments of history obtained from those historical architectures are made into works of art with a new material while they remain reflecting the exact shape of the architecture. Her interpretation of history will play an important role in the exhibition connecting the past and the future.<br />

For the preservation in the town couldn't have been made possible without tremendous effort by historians, the locals and organizations which are supporting this area's preservation activities.<br />
<br />
One wall of this gallery is dedicated to those people. The exhibition celebrates the most significant 28 personnel/groups from them as the heroes of the town history.<br />
Also, the film of the project <i><a href="https://savingplaces.org/this-place-matters#.Vy1sb9LhDIU" target="_blank">This Place Matters</a></i> conducted by one of the interns of the museum will be introduced here.<br />

It's been more than 2 months since I talked about the frames as <a href="http://museumdoors.blogspot.com/2016/02/work-in-progress-installing-frames.html" target="_blank">my second post</a> here.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Time always flies...</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
It already became time to place printed panels to all these empty frames.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj9kmiuTqdEw_jNaDUvMkyJRZEXar6wxPlu8PdXu_hIXK9B7WrAOvF8DByY6_XeDydTawapOxdYlo05tArW6-CALDMcS4f3uu22RCK2scaOcRJ9A12ivYlhbkKd8So8-3AUZeYepQEAJ_jd/s1600/frame1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="225" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj9kmiuTqdEw_jNaDUvMkyJRZEXar6wxPlu8PdXu_hIXK9B7WrAOvF8DByY6_XeDydTawapOxdYlo05tArW6-CALDMcS4f3uu22RCK2scaOcRJ9A12ivYlhbkKd8So8-3AUZeYepQEAJ_jd/s400/frame1.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
All the printed and cut materials were delivered to <a href="http://www.orangetownmuseum.com/" target="_blank">the Orangetown Museum</a>.<br />
Each panel talks about each historian or organization which has played a significant role in preserving history of the Orangetown and passing it on to following generations.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgXcmFnA3DC7J-lCd4Q-hn3Sdgr3FO1a4WwAqmIx5YJWG7vU7M_V8wJcImrK3Avtf_Y8_qJGLh-EItbYZ8Aw2jZ6ON85d9KlsUNVc6jyGIiHqJyjHfYzO4Zer30ZZjsaVPOOWtumYHX0LbJ/s1600/frame2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="225" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgXcmFnA3DC7J-lCd4Q-hn3Sdgr3FO1a4WwAqmIx5YJWG7vU7M_V8wJcImrK3Avtf_Y8_qJGLh-EItbYZ8Aw2jZ6ON85d9KlsUNVc6jyGIiHqJyjHfYzO4Zer30ZZjsaVPOOWtumYHX0LbJ/s400/frame2.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
Under the instruction of Ms. Weischowsky, who is one of the museum board members and also a professional framer, we attached the panels to these frames.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhRnDkG1YFRG8FYIXR48fK5aWmvrSYitxiIaiDCd-__IQ_-juAA68syH2FKGbOZ-K5Fi0WxvUA4c1RDnLLntvFDYI9chjphrfcz4OzG-_qmPlPmlx1kTfKzvg1eIX385nIofXBvpw-7USxD/s1600/frame3.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="225" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhRnDkG1YFRG8FYIXR48fK5aWmvrSYitxiIaiDCd-__IQ_-juAA68syH2FKGbOZ-K5Fi0WxvUA4c1RDnLLntvFDYI9chjphrfcz4OzG-_qmPlPmlx1kTfKzvg1eIX385nIofXBvpw-7USxD/s400/frame3.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
As always, I enjoyed this framing project which required manual labor. It was very interesting to operate a framing nailer which was a gun-like equipment to shoot a nail into a wooden frame to hold a panel.<br />
<br />
After all, the empty frames are filled with texts and pictures.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhX_Rcmxj2EsIsHfJuabHH-tvyglJA6QNndBqtJTbYs82v_KHVmuucxib5WNad15q-SYfoDhR0FZc9jgOxz558zRvhO5qtGSN2Z0sddJXVjClHE-sydeOl7XdiFIC6afPQCL85Z-TOUgQFc/s1600/frame4.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="225" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhX_Rcmxj2EsIsHfJuabHH-tvyglJA6QNndBqtJTbYs82v_KHVmuucxib5WNad15q-SYfoDhR0FZc9jgOxz558zRvhO5qtGSN2Z0sddJXVjClHE-sydeOl7XdiFIC6afPQCL85Z-TOUgQFc/s400/frame4.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
This wall is going to introduce 28 heroes (historians and organizations) of the Orangetown history preservation in the coming exhibition, <i><b><a href="http://media.wix.com/ugd/623f0b_94e30ec86b1b4b7d9a2ad0f3996e0638.pdf" target="_blank">past/forward</a></b></i>.<br />
<br />
The exhibition will be open to public from May 7th - November 13th.<br />

In addition to the label making work from the <a href="http://museumdoors.blogspot.com/2016/04/work-in-progress-label-making.html" target="_blank">last post</a>, I also enjoyed working on painting small things.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
What I painted were these wires which are hanging objects on a gallery wall.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEif7BBgiQKoOD02RatqX2g8-4VjyEPEtvs9rBcDIbWxXUZrEHmjx_7qHfJxp4llhBDw78AZ9s4akr4daoypkFJbxj9nkw-15wymKZ1gNWGrv71p9smvap2T725C3DTS8vArI0Rq3EqU1Krj/s1600/paintwork1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="225" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEif7BBgiQKoOD02RatqX2g8-4VjyEPEtvs9rBcDIbWxXUZrEHmjx_7qHfJxp4llhBDw78AZ9s4akr4daoypkFJbxj9nkw-15wymKZ1gNWGrv71p9smvap2T725C3DTS8vArI0Rq3EqU1Krj/s400/paintwork1.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
The wires are thin, however, their reflecting metallic color was standing out against the lavender wall.<br />
<br />
So, I got the fun work of becoming a painter and coloring these thin wires, in order to make the exhibit look better♪<br />
<br />
Beginning with masking the objects so I wouldn't paint them accidentally,,,<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh3HFYtGHA8qgPYY_jkSo3eUCEIqY3HbBq4TMxwEZmVK7rw7SE2JAfeb8Ynd5aoAe7WNQN2894hN8a_ueHJ8SGBNBfusUpPyklwP3w7WS2pYZnsEB-AZl3fqpf0u9DMOx7fa3sy0xGf0fSd/s1600/paintwork2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="225" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh3HFYtGHA8qgPYY_jkSo3eUCEIqY3HbBq4TMxwEZmVK7rw7SE2JAfeb8Ynd5aoAe7WNQN2894hN8a_ueHJ8SGBNBfusUpPyklwP3w7WS2pYZnsEB-AZl3fqpf0u9DMOx7fa3sy0xGf0fSd/s400/paintwork2.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
I applied some paint which the museum's engineer had prepared, on to each wire by using this little painting brush.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjtH_IvACEpMo4tKBgULYL1xB-f_09j2Wo67Oj5IBxTwmsTuk3eg4tT74cdx-jBTVvLB4aHLLpEsQBwKAK3L12M1SgBNWu9ArfkZSFfXLApONVLtGtVhvpC3_xZMl7hVkJw6q0IjxuV-gEq/s1600/paintwork3.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="225" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjtH_IvACEpMo4tKBgULYL1xB-f_09j2Wo67Oj5IBxTwmsTuk3eg4tT74cdx-jBTVvLB4aHLLpEsQBwKAK3L12M1SgBNWu9ArfkZSFfXLApONVLtGtVhvpC3_xZMl7hVkJw6q0IjxuV-gEq/s400/paintwork3.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
Since I had to be careful not to dribble the paint on the objects or the floor, and also working mostly on a stepladder required more caution, it took me a while to finish all the wires, in spite of the size of the painting surface...<br />
However, I again enjoyed this physical task at the museum :-)<br />
<br />
<br />
Now, the wires are painted in the same color as the wall, and blending in with the gallery atmosphere.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjkBcdTpGTYSEWZWiWMaI8LX_9PIkErIoN3Qt3v7OS2HdiRr3kM4yWWra1MdUNm9SSqiLGpyXMiCbGccreKJqHq_zwEDjN1fkfY0809rwjCd4ZSm4uj2XUTB6ex-WJsjT_a43hhLXmzKNt-/s1600/paintwork4.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="225" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjkBcdTpGTYSEWZWiWMaI8LX_9PIkErIoN3Qt3v7OS2HdiRr3kM4yWWra1MdUNm9SSqiLGpyXMiCbGccreKJqHq_zwEDjN1fkfY0809rwjCd4ZSm4uj2XUTB6ex-WJsjT_a43hhLXmzKNt-/s400/paintwork4.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
Color difference on such thin wires seems very subtle, but it makes a big difference in viewers' eyes.<br />
It was one of the important processes to prepare a gallery to make the best of the exhibit.<br />
<br />
<br />
And,,, I did a quick retouch on to another wall as well.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

It is very fortunate that I have a lot of opportunity to satisfy my enthusiasm for creation at the <a href="http://www.orangetownmuseum.com/" target="_blank">Orangetown Museum</a>.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
One of the projects I have been involved recently, was label making for <a href="http://media.wix.com/ugd/623f0b_94e30ec86b1b4b7d9a2ad0f3996e0638.pdf" target="_blank">the new exhibition</a>.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I enjoyed this manufacturing work in the museum's studio, so let me introduce what I did with some pictures♪</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
One day, all the printed materials arrived at the studio. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
These pieces of paper were going to be attached on a wall as exhibition sources. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgfqvqHzGCbkdIru4XRu4-fTkCj386hx-66eFzRDmX57cIcNsL_11ALZ3WpECGBKewV-Kz655mvqqB4MG1OqhQCN0wtBPIBd4b4cFvn3iLgvNRbAMrgD-DqeeySpgGTO9DgmLK21FE1NaSy/s1600/panel1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="225" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgfqvqHzGCbkdIru4XRu4-fTkCj386hx-66eFzRDmX57cIcNsL_11ALZ3WpECGBKewV-Kz655mvqqB4MG1OqhQCN0wtBPIBd4b4cFvn3iLgvNRbAMrgD-DqeeySpgGTO9DgmLK21FE1NaSy/s400/panel1.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
With rulers and a pencil, the paper with print was marked so that it could have excess part cut off.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEijfgjdHhnmjhHg2wZEiHrSzh0SPNjynxbiXeganDe0mDHrTnY2TOyZEyBsEStVBukvPN0nSRG-IQWrZ41fKrHVgH4hfjlG0qf9LGC_ta8ly87XTbK3izu6z0p_-Q6W8XlrhvhlYXtCL-S6/s1600/panel2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="225" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEijfgjdHhnmjhHg2wZEiHrSzh0SPNjynxbiXeganDe0mDHrTnY2TOyZEyBsEStVBukvPN0nSRG-IQWrZ41fKrHVgH4hfjlG0qf9LGC_ta8ly87XTbK3izu6z0p_-Q6W8XlrhvhlYXtCL-S6/s400/panel2.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
Getting rid of excess paper with a cutter...<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiJb0GZgvEh7T9QqjZY3hM4T7_NbDoRWp3O5t0IXFer89AYn-ILLd7g407E2rUz1tkjfAb22xlC9EIbBpa7A8PvE3yYcRrkTQx3xfBSw5ksoZJJGL6OhS4b2gXMRR1hi3dGC8Gzlt5P3e1j/s1600/panel3.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="225" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiJb0GZgvEh7T9QqjZY3hM4T7_NbDoRWp3O5t0IXFer89AYn-ILLd7g407E2rUz1tkjfAb22xlC9EIbBpa7A8PvE3yYcRrkTQx3xfBSw5ksoZJJGL6OhS4b2gXMRR1hi3dGC8Gzlt5P3e1j/s400/panel3.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Adjusting to the size of each cut material, another sheet of paper was prepared. This was a special sheet made of glue substance which would be melt by heat. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEggmljdzkKNl4F6URNK0blGs3t9pZkzX4S9fipTmOdAVHrrd8mDXotBBQcqR6ltYjLqGuUvS2fpsvYUzwlDv312UcFhHdHCOuPmTFvIjZKTsyntM7WEyhsv0Gg5SaxPQHvjZ1bOHJlyVA-l/s1600/panel4.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="225" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEggmljdzkKNl4F6URNK0blGs3t9pZkzX4S9fipTmOdAVHrrd8mDXotBBQcqR6ltYjLqGuUvS2fpsvYUzwlDv312UcFhHdHCOuPmTFvIjZKTsyntM7WEyhsv0Gg5SaxPQHvjZ1bOHJlyVA-l/s400/panel4.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Placing pairs of cut paper and glue sheet on a large foam board, so we could cut the board efficiently.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgZi5ESQtWEa4ly1hLFFUk5waCn8OLjEfFsffFBassNQwF1upL2bAUWZ9lSchV_R6mC0Kqyt4fTv7IaRxqo1hMSlLFP3DiOxwiCpzXdnDCeo3j-_FI7j0WKuVKAMhaymfqfQJSXkK-tH7qG/s1600/panel5.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="225" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgZi5ESQtWEa4ly1hLFFUk5waCn8OLjEfFsffFBassNQwF1upL2bAUWZ9lSchV_R6mC0Kqyt4fTv7IaRxqo1hMSlLFP3DiOxwiCpzXdnDCeo3j-_FI7j0WKuVKAMhaymfqfQJSXkK-tH7qG/s400/panel5.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
Then the board was cut into the size of each piece with this big cutter.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjlqjJNCrp5G921UX4oiYi9BJva0S2RlLTa80f8SBX8zAVPCem-SNcLjYaF0cTwhfFSuS-zAwdBMpnj7BHTI6DWAw1cCVEwkqXUFiBAb3OBENAxOiNYRMH9_a7MHkGEAzScxvQ1Z-vNrwZL/s1600/panel6.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="225" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjlqjJNCrp5G921UX4oiYi9BJva0S2RlLTa80f8SBX8zAVPCem-SNcLjYaF0cTwhfFSuS-zAwdBMpnj7BHTI6DWAw1cCVEwkqXUFiBAb3OBENAxOiNYRMH9_a7MHkGEAzScxvQ1Z-vNrwZL/s400/panel6.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
The set of the foamed board, the glue sheet and the print, were sandwiched by release paper (light blue paper in the picture), and gently and partially pressed by the heated iron. This process was for quasi-fixing, so the next step would be easily and precisely done.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEggL4qW9-J5pxc1wKDkV-aLS8KlecuiChEpGMINjyXwLR9znobgV1oiJ-1oFbsAeMLjMhOH6duWdPAIN7YjCVuO432DYfMqghZB-RwzWTVDaFF06DPmXcTY8UNt2yAMBeIdZqoluKpyqOl0/s1600/panel7.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="225" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEggL4qW9-J5pxc1wKDkV-aLS8KlecuiChEpGMINjyXwLR9znobgV1oiJ-1oFbsAeMLjMhOH6duWdPAIN7YjCVuO432DYfMqghZB-RwzWTVDaFF06DPmXcTY8UNt2yAMBeIdZqoluKpyqOl0/s400/panel7.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
This is the heating machine to finalize this gluing process. This horizontal version of trouser-presser-like machine was to give certain heat to the whole labels and glue the paper fully to the boards.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjyMJI_KaemVCLQ_suCdVq2sIangVl64ioTUzwO1Oe2UTRWf9uBU6o7VV-a7NTvYAS-6eHUl6IUBcpyInJcv9E5PCUCUMjEyRdPDK2BJE_mzSjrV9gI7KtiIPGNY-G5YeiShr69RnXTfAFa/s1600/panel8.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="225" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjyMJI_KaemVCLQ_suCdVq2sIangVl64ioTUzwO1Oe2UTRWf9uBU6o7VV-a7NTvYAS-6eHUl6IUBcpyInJcv9E5PCUCUMjEyRdPDK2BJE_mzSjrV9gI7KtiIPGNY-G5YeiShr69RnXTfAFa/s400/panel8.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
Each pre-glued material sandwiched with large release paper, was pressed and heated in the machine for about 30 seconds. <br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgSpUn7H74x8MJ7vvYWbnEhv6EMbBkm8nHvyc_4d9lyvZopXH78OlrGgyXpy8bjStqTGtLgiMIzpcthPzAEHlrSHdR9IynuPMYkpJoyKLdrC8YPn7A0zQbSj4iv_ehgJgDDzk0PhNhBfpev/s1600/panel9.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="225" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgSpUn7H74x8MJ7vvYWbnEhv6EMbBkm8nHvyc_4d9lyvZopXH78OlrGgyXpy8bjStqTGtLgiMIzpcthPzAEHlrSHdR9IynuPMYkpJoyKLdrC8YPn7A0zQbSj4iv_ehgJgDDzk0PhNhBfpev/s400/panel9.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
Cooling down the glued pieces in between the tabletop and an acrylic board so that they could be firmly done without crooking or containing air bubbles. <br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgHSdIk20fYLwYfLp_-VK0L5tbBhbV7t6YA0xoFgEmnTBnt5flYKOuyvOyVyCV548k0H2uotvYWJrAXEu1mOEfIYeLgRM_5cwPrbdyeM-P2cOlW1guKWpmHGJXeDIhzQbivMrw2zGmzXMNF/s1600/panel10.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="225" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgHSdIk20fYLwYfLp_-VK0L5tbBhbV7t6YA0xoFgEmnTBnt5flYKOuyvOyVyCV548k0H2uotvYWJrAXEu1mOEfIYeLgRM_5cwPrbdyeM-P2cOlW1guKWpmHGJXeDIhzQbivMrw2zGmzXMNF/s400/panel10.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
Finally, the printed materials were attached on boards. After that, all the excess part was cut off and the edges were filed.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgi_ribt4_goU-RP-Bv7Tbm_TCokQEamkbhTkgSdVxDconq4bwSHlnXtxxR21vva7Y4cQQ-DN-X8-vWXwClRqwQq7mZZxZXbfckJ4YNfdr7R47PNaMK8s_5JdBrF-0NAPd_ZDmSvgnLb9I_/s1600/panel11.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="225" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgi_ribt4_goU-RP-Bv7Tbm_TCokQEamkbhTkgSdVxDconq4bwSHlnXtxxR21vva7Y4cQQ-DN-X8-vWXwClRqwQq7mZZxZXbfckJ4YNfdr7R47PNaMK8s_5JdBrF-0NAPd_ZDmSvgnLb9I_/s400/panel11.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
The labels we made this time were placed in one of the museum galleries, which will become a film screening room for the coming exhibition.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh9yN3w_hkG0KBQdYHr3rBjXxBZYaz22s5wXp4ucOLfiBcSm66emU66n1HLldJYgKx0Grwje9YGNDbMav0IDBRrK_ifZMBIcL24jN0tBWtRhgazqIbYdr9nxGysm2ZoZE4Mt17t9wjUpBuE/s1600/panel12.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="225" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh9yN3w_hkG0KBQdYHr3rBjXxBZYaz22s5wXp4ucOLfiBcSm66emU66n1HLldJYgKx0Grwje9YGNDbMav0IDBRrK_ifZMBIcL24jN0tBWtRhgazqIbYdr9nxGysm2ZoZE4Mt17t9wjUpBuE/s400/panel12.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
How these labels are attached on the wall?<br />
<br />
It's a secret family recipe of the museum♪ ;-)<br />

<a href="http://www.orangetownmuseum.com/" target="_blank">Orangetowm Museum</a> is a small non-for-profit museum which is run by the town.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
The number of temporary employees is limited, however, the museum is always supported by many volunteers, local historians and interns like me :-)</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
Some volunteers come to the museum constantly, for example once a week, and help with various museum tasks contributing their skill and knowledge.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
This gentleman, Mr. Geist, everybody calls him Jack, is one of the volunteer members.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjIw6NST73qnLkruPbTzMuE3DTwRY0_QQrx3TbSRD-GFPTSVm755DdueJWWhm_fjY0kn8emKmgjTUtr9zro1ooZ77qNz8t2iyPQBREiy6rb-z-W6bJ0gYZ8FSF-vaK0nrwDGlzEB7zxSlpD/s1600/20160329_145627.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="261" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjIw6NST73qnLkruPbTzMuE3DTwRY0_QQrx3TbSRD-GFPTSVm755DdueJWWhm_fjY0kn8emKmgjTUtr9zro1ooZ77qNz8t2iyPQBREiy6rb-z-W6bJ0gYZ8FSF-vaK0nrwDGlzEB7zxSlpD/s400/20160329_145627.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
(I love his smile♪)</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
In the town of the Orangetown, there is a lovely village called Grandview along the Hudson River.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Jack was born at one of the houses in Grandview in 1920. He grew up there and worked as the mayor of the village, while he has still been living in the same house where he was born 96 years ago.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
As a gifted child who grew up in an artistic environment with a professional photographer (father) and a creative artist (mother), Jack also had a career as a graphic designer at Life Magazine and Time Magazine.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
He experienced not only WWII but also the Great Depression.</div>
Recently, we had a conversation about Prohibition during lunch time! He is a primary source of the modern history of America.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Regardless of his age, his memories and skill toward visual material are still very sharp!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
He knows so many local people of the town in history. It is a great ability that he can tell who is who by observing black and white archival slides which tell us the old days of the town.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
That is something nobody else but he can do. He is the living archive!</div>
<br />
Jack is also very open minded and positive about learning new things.<br />
(As you can see, he manages his smart phone too♪)<br />
<br />
I like talking to him over lunch :-)<br />
I just found that he liked "origami" so much and has been involved with creating New York's annual "Origami Holiday Tree."<br />
Maybe I can talk with him about origami next time I see him♪<br />
<br />
Like Jack, every museum activity is made possible by generous effort of people supporting us.<br />
The museum always appreciates such a good connection to local people.<br />

As I always tell people for sure that the best thing for me to intern at <a href="http://www.orangetownmuseum.com/" target="_blank">the Orangetown Historical Museum and Archives</a>, is that I can get involve with so many tasks of museum work.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Since <a href="http://museumdoors.blogspot.com/2016/04/work-in-progress-panels-and-invitations.html" target="_blank">the last post</a>, we have installed many of the new panels in the gallery and all the <a href="http://museumdoors.blogspot.com/2016/03/work-in-process-excavated-objects.html" target="_blank">archeological objects found around the Seth's House</a> were nicely placed with temporary labels on a table.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhnhho2TfIxCFqzgyjKbjYIwFNVpsB2hKMucai4HVzJym6aYUCcaUuvmJk-jTjb-SiQGcb63rkYMomnvsXkkOhr5vQjjkIPyRNCay3xgAIk2xGVJZaeVKm-PUQVIMhY7tq2Ao6LsTH_p5-8/s1600/20160405_131551.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="225" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhnhho2TfIxCFqzgyjKbjYIwFNVpsB2hKMucai4HVzJym6aYUCcaUuvmJk-jTjb-SiQGcb63rkYMomnvsXkkOhr5vQjjkIPyRNCay3xgAIk2xGVJZaeVKm-PUQVIMhY7tq2Ao6LsTH_p5-8/s400/20160405_131551.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
More objects, for example this antique clock, to organize <a href="http://media.wix.com/ugd/623f0b_94e30ec86b1b4b7d9a2ad0f3996e0638.pdf" target="_blank">the exhibition</a> are brought from <a href="http://museumdoors.blogspot.com/2016/03/the-salyer-house-another-site-for-museum.html" target="_blank">the Salyer House</a>.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
This is <a href="http://museumdoors.blogspot.com/2016/02/work-in-progress-installing-frames.html" target="_blank">the wall with multiple frames</a> which I hung with my supervisor.<br />
All the frames are now empty. They are waiting for the panels to be done by our printer and come back to each.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg9QxtJqookfCI0IhO-KDV4hFAhSqhuAM8OmoESytx8P7uWubakjibNIy3lcAJe4cQiCtNQBoVC3zpo_Vt5ipEkrx58UrRz_Aeeow6NMP8o5N7axEuTlcf5706HF2-odycYJti3OlcmUuFz/s1600/20160405_131732.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="225" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg9QxtJqookfCI0IhO-KDV4hFAhSqhuAM8OmoESytx8P7uWubakjibNIy3lcAJe4cQiCtNQBoVC3zpo_Vt5ipEkrx58UrRz_Aeeow6NMP8o5N7axEuTlcf5706HF2-odycYJti3OlcmUuFz/s400/20160405_131732.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
The stacked chairs are holding a digital screen which will introduce a lot of information to our visitors at the exhibit.<br />
The work tools on a side are the sign of "work in progress"♪<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg3gztPw2wWeHL25b5VgC_x2UDfR7grQqdo9j4CeVe5rlCfnlqfFfDKp13Ad2vz7DpE6Ugv5yOQZwt4tDRI3sTYi1phkNsmDYjuWdAgFNujMQNraYUkWhxx-NP9vnv5W4aW6TjEHDXUE14U/s1600/20160405_131837.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="225" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg3gztPw2wWeHL25b5VgC_x2UDfR7grQqdo9j4CeVe5rlCfnlqfFfDKp13Ad2vz7DpE6Ugv5yOQZwt4tDRI3sTYi1phkNsmDYjuWdAgFNujMQNraYUkWhxx-NP9vnv5W4aW6TjEHDXUE14U/s400/20160405_131837.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
While this installation work, I keep researching some more pieces from the museum acquisition and organizing information about them on the digital archive software.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
They are men's hats donated by the same family as <a href="http://museumdoors.blogspot.com/2016/03/beautiful-hat-collection.html" target="_blank">the fabulous female hats</a>. I would like to talk about them in my some other post.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
In addition to that, I have been working on making a PR list and news release to pitch to various media recently.</div>
The Orangetown Historical Museum and Archives is a non-for-profit organization run by the town of Orangetown. The museum is not holding an exhibition for a commercial purpose but always willing to welcome people from both local areas and outside the region.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Thanks to the museum staff who always let me try working on multiple projects regardless of department boundaries, I have been working for the museum doing as much as I can :-)</div>
<br />
I hope we will have a large attendance at the new exhibition♪<br />

<a href="http://www.orangetownmuseum.com/" target="_blank">The Orangetown Historical Museum and Archives</a> has gotten more loaded as it moves toward its new exhibition, <i><a href="http://media.wix.com/ugd/623f0b_94e30ec86b1b4b7d9a2ad0f3996e0638.pdf" target="_blank"><b>past/forward</b></a></i> beginning in May.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
This week, newly printed panels for the exhibit were delivered by our printer.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
The installation at the museum is still in progress so, most of them are still nicely wrapped and placed in a corner of the gallery.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
They are waiting for their turn to be installed, which is coming very soon!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">

The museum is preparing to welcome all the visitors and looking forward to the opening of the show!Masako Birminghamhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16526588675993168709noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8655002609391863363.post-85146327835734769862016-03-30T20:13:00.001-04:002016-03-30T20:13:22.742-04:00Work in Process: Excavated Objects around the Seth's House<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
We have only about 5 weeks left before the new exhibition opening on May 7th (Saturday).</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<a href="http://www.orangetownmuseum.com/" target="_blank">The Orangetown Historical Museum and Archives</a> has been becoming busier and busier with installing objects and preparing all the material to welcome its visitors for the coming exhibit <i><b><a href="http://media.wix.com/ugd/623f0b_94e30ec86b1b4b7d9a2ad0f3996e0638.pdf" target="_blank">past/forward</a></b></i>.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
As a part of the installation, I worked on these boxes of a lot of objects with one of the museum's volunteer workers today.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj9Ru5OnfTrb5Wl9m8bLI-MYtXCIgxiLa9nM_SmywfBVGxd448v5KVCojJnaDGC9xWnrPpxLpv_bs99p3U75j65vrlRubv0kE-puV-L2iWJzB91FvNRtsRamjMDn8drcGq04qfeCavzKq38/s1600/20160329_135622.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="225" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj9Ru5OnfTrb5Wl9m8bLI-MYtXCIgxiLa9nM_SmywfBVGxd448v5KVCojJnaDGC9xWnrPpxLpv_bs99p3U75j65vrlRubv0kE-puV-L2iWJzB91FvNRtsRamjMDn8drcGq04qfeCavzKq38/s400/20160329_135622.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
The carefully sorted and packaged objects in these boxes are excavated materials at and around <a href="http://www.hrvh.org/cdm/ref/collection/hsrc/id/559" target="_blank">the Seth's House</a>.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgYBFJU1D7p9iy5uJyo92upv_JnydgXXty743mrNGWOo1HlTjd_RQxKKYyWJMZYFQmUnU8xxhOblOHzJo22ZzGBH2_n15hIkdqxu4QljNdc7QOpPHtVmI8QReH57f5qLKzyLkIZBqwgreAj/s1600/20160311_130328.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="225" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgYBFJU1D7p9iy5uJyo92upv_JnydgXXty743mrNGWOo1HlTjd_RQxKKYyWJMZYFQmUnU8xxhOblOHzJo22ZzGBH2_n15hIkdqxu4QljNdc7QOpPHtVmI8QReH57f5qLKzyLkIZBqwgreAj/s400/20160311_130328.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: x-small;">Current picture of the Seth's House</span><br />
<span style="font-size: x-small;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
The original structure of the house was built around 1750. Since then, the house was extended as it was passed on to each owner in history. The house has also been vandalized and caused argument over its restoration and demolition.</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
Then, the act of preservation has finally been carried out recently. The house is now going through the restoration process.</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
The museum is supporting this restoration as the museum of the town in which the house is located.</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
It is going to showcase some of the excavated objects around the house at the next exhibition.</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
So, we worked on choosing objects from the bags. They were already organized and defined by archeologists.</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
We found some interesting objects such as an ashtray, metal pieces, fragments of ceramics etc...</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEidHRLzcFKidETa-t9XYiTTahOcu8ZyhG74I4FWOg_DSLiQgbey7Zb4gofCGURrDY4zSx20Xk2IiHg-Nof47v82pXOLavvSnjCggGW4Q1eyt_adjnUmFnW7HXJoVtwZXxlIve8lGJuQLIFQ/s1600/20160329_135641.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="225" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEidHRLzcFKidETa-t9XYiTTahOcu8ZyhG74I4FWOg_DSLiQgbey7Zb4gofCGURrDY4zSx20Xk2IiHg-Nof47v82pXOLavvSnjCggGW4Q1eyt_adjnUmFnW7HXJoVtwZXxlIve8lGJuQLIFQ/s400/20160329_135641.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
They will be displayed in the museum gallery and play a part of the exhibition from this coming May.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjhnKM-FLwfX2BpT5uBYoQ9isox1odo9nyY1S_aShdfaznLczeYMyQYfM3_UZUxq8xcn2vCi8WFwtClbLSkeKxDAwC0IYhGi7LvsWdlQFloJxhXp_OtA-78h_YgrJ4Pj2MXwgihxl1fm2-G/s1600/20160329_141430.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="225" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjhnKM-FLwfX2BpT5uBYoQ9isox1odo9nyY1S_aShdfaznLczeYMyQYfM3_UZUxq8xcn2vCi8WFwtClbLSkeKxDAwC0IYhGi7LvsWdlQFloJxhXp_OtA-78h_YgrJ4Pj2MXwgihxl1fm2-G/s400/20160329_141430.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: x-small;">Display work in progress...</span></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: x-small;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
I think it is going to be interesting that these objects from the historical house nearby are shown as actual and tangible examples in the exhibition which is focusing on preservation of the past and forwarding it to the future.<br />
<br />
I hope many visitors to the exhibition will enjoy watching these interesting objects at the our museum.</div>

One day at <a href="http://www.orangetownmuseum.com/" target="_blank">the Orangetown Historical Museum and Archives</a>,,,</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I was with my supervisor and a female worker. We were excitedly observing each item from <a href="http://museumdoors.blogspot.com/2016/03/beautiful-hat-collection.html" target="_blank">the hat collection</a> which I introduced last time.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Since each hat was so unique with interesting design, we were appreciating them by picking up our favorite one besides studying them♪</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
My supervisor's favorite one is this brown spring hat.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEisbot5_9PIlUYSie30iWR-c3-KHND0BDH7j0YZL45beHE-MlUDzm2GLoirxwdpkHJOLxMmUYEO0sIWzKLHPRAf3gbMImRMQBNQyw2o39_pG7ieZEolhz3FLBjipkNe3MIvr3FrKm_JOHZf/s1600/20160219_113257.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="225" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEisbot5_9PIlUYSie30iWR-c3-KHND0BDH7j0YZL45beHE-MlUDzm2GLoirxwdpkHJOLxMmUYEO0sIWzKLHPRAf3gbMImRMQBNQyw2o39_pG7ieZEolhz3FLBjipkNe3MIvr3FrKm_JOHZf/s400/20160219_113257.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
The whole hat is made with delicate tulle supported by a wire frame.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
The front brim is decorated with a gorgeous plume of ostrich feather which slightly covers wearer's face like a weeping willow.</div>
<br />
<br />
This cute hat is for a young female worker who is working at the museum as a volunteer staff and also teaches me registrar work on digital archive software.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjMrjRnHXfpBPwGcisT3tyTi70qkXfBL7AO0CfaHWXd0ok7RmGdZeSE_1EPHXAERASpbHQQ8kH539YXwH1Bu00rouBRwMqpvTfP4MQ9uaXcC5np5XDdUI0qwAcAiaWoGYiegm31cb8ZV8k6/s1600/20160219_112042.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="225" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjMrjRnHXfpBPwGcisT3tyTi70qkXfBL7AO0CfaHWXd0ok7RmGdZeSE_1EPHXAERASpbHQQ8kH539YXwH1Bu00rouBRwMqpvTfP4MQ9uaXcC5np5XDdUI0qwAcAiaWoGYiegm31cb8ZV8k6/s400/20160219_112042.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
The very feminine and innocent appearance of this flower-covered hat matches her so much♪<br />
<br />
<br />
And,,, this black velvet hat was chosen for me!<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjMpa1rviD343szKSPXh7VJhwgFIN1LwEG-rY4ER3sxVbPNDS7dSfW7xuLJunb8Km48bVLZeqdm_apYOVM_riga4bZuUbgJNOVgJpRIcrt9O2U5y9ujX8GaJOJmzErTCsRFmUtyL6QQ37-d/s1600/20160219_110900.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="225" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjMpa1rviD343szKSPXh7VJhwgFIN1LwEG-rY4ER3sxVbPNDS7dSfW7xuLJunb8Km48bVLZeqdm_apYOVM_riga4bZuUbgJNOVgJpRIcrt9O2U5y9ujX8GaJOJmzErTCsRFmUtyL6QQ37-d/s400/20160219_110900.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
This is a chic velvet hat with an oval brim.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Toward the outside edge of the brim is decorated with black tulle. (This tulle has become so fragile that we need to be careful when we handle this hat!!!)</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
There is a pin with two gold pearls, is attached on the front.<br />
<br />
Black satin ribbon is tied into a bow shape at slightly off-center on the back. I think this is very cute♪<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhtByP4_3QqAefVIKtRqelLJGX80_7GH9MZcqJhmWC38K7J8AtxCzL2kHngTbhyphenhyphenSZ9YiHA8wOizMBNkCdYfKcdp0iq7oRYMBGc7CYs8LwFDb-I9fNRp_odseXioUdg_7vgwTyyuWRlSRse8/s1600/20160219_111159.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="225" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhtByP4_3QqAefVIKtRqelLJGX80_7GH9MZcqJhmWC38K7J8AtxCzL2kHngTbhyphenhyphenSZ9YiHA8wOizMBNkCdYfKcdp0iq7oRYMBGc7CYs8LwFDb-I9fNRp_odseXioUdg_7vgwTyyuWRlSRse8/s400/20160219_111159.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
On the liner of the hat, an emblem logo is embroidered.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEilcFyiIji_m8MqzKjUHOOP1oyywryuhO-HPYW_RnH75Oe0hyuU7csEjE0AVLjSL71-bF7LFRNKLbTw_3yhmWQcq83YzAeDvSU7uzjKeiimdsjVCZvWe6gKW4v8Y81H6BcYh0KPflnkymCU/s1600/20160219_111307.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="225" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEilcFyiIji_m8MqzKjUHOOP1oyywryuhO-HPYW_RnH75Oe0hyuU7csEjE0AVLjSL71-bF7LFRNKLbTw_3yhmWQcq83YzAeDvSU7uzjKeiimdsjVCZvWe6gKW4v8Y81H6BcYh0KPflnkymCU/s400/20160219_111307.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
It is the logo of <i>Hahne & Co </i>which was a high-end department store in Newark, NJ from the beginning to the late 20th century.<br />
Unfortunately, we no longer have a chance to see this department store in business now, however, we can imagine how Newark seemed like with such a fancy stores with top-of-the-line fashion products in the early 20th century.<br />
<br />
It is always interesting and romantic to know about history through objects which have been living over years, decades and centuries♪<br />

These beautiful hats were donated to the Orangetown Historical Museum and Archives by a generous family Mr. and Mrs. Lanzilotti.<br />
<br />
They came in a classic hat box with other accessories, such as handmade night caps, an ostrich collar, an ostrich feather boa, a rose corsage and felted wool spats.<br />

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Since the museum acquired this collection, it has researched about each item.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
They are historical items which played a role gracing the owner's attire in the late 19th century to the early 20th century.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Family items are family memories.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Every item was well preserved by the family, and this time, the museum took over the duty to appreciate and introduce the significance of this collection.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
At the museum, I take part in the research work for these items.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
It often requires careful observation and a lot of study of each, to find out their history. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
However, it is a romantic process to trace back the history of costumes and to know how people were living in the period before I was born, by understanding objects.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Objects acquired by the museum, like this collection, are studied, preserved and then may be introduced to visitors in the future exhibitions.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
The generous donation enriches the museum's research duty, collections and exhibitions. </div>

My work (intern) time at <a href="http://www.orangetownmuseum.com/" target="_blank">the Orangetown Historical Museum and Archives</a>, is usually 10am to 3pm.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
As I always write here, I am involved with many types of tasks of the whole museum work, I still have lots of opportunity to work on something new on each day and learn works I have never done before, though it has been almost 2 months since I started working there.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Working on new tasks and meeting new people let my work time go faster and time always flies at the internship.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
The work at the museum usually starts with a nice morning coffee time with everybody. When I arrive at the museum, my supervisor, the director of the museum and the building engineer are already there with freshly brewed coffee and some snack at the table.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEinHpRASMPoz7N1iEdFQv4IWLEB7tWilB6Q8aJk3HM3HSyIN5JxxSNjOeEM1N12T29XZYtjHfAaYKhyphenhyphens78tiPXjVq_wWK5862aEqHEePgemEfxn79RI8jTCKA4GInd93Nui7bVfYSBLM40Y/s1600/20160301_092819.jpeg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="187" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEinHpRASMPoz7N1iEdFQv4IWLEB7tWilB6Q8aJk3HM3HSyIN5JxxSNjOeEM1N12T29XZYtjHfAaYKhyphenhyphens78tiPXjVq_wWK5862aEqHEePgemEfxn79RI8jTCKA4GInd93Nui7bVfYSBLM40Y/s400/20160301_092819.jpeg" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
As soon as I get there, I join them as they always tell me "Good morning♪ Have some coffee here! We saved some for you!"<br />
<br />
I love this pleasant and uplifting coffee time at the beginning of a day with everybody♪<br />
<br />
<br />
The coffee time is also a time to communicate to each other like a meeting time.<br />
We exchange information about works and projects each of us deals with, and tell others who they are proceeding.<br />
<br />
This is also a good chance for me to know about people I rarely meet during daily work time, such as board members, local historians etc.<br />
<br />
I hope I will have a lot more chance to meet people in addition to learning opportunity so that I can have more broad idea of museum work associated with people in society.Masako Birminghamhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16526588675993168709noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8655002609391863363.post-4826426365183093682016-03-09T21:47:00.000-05:002016-03-09T21:47:23.663-05:00The Salyer House, Another Site for the Museum<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<a href="http://www.orangetownmuseum.com/" target="_blank">The Orangetown Historical Museum and Archives</a>, where I intern at, has two sites.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
For the past three posts, I introduced one of them, which is called the DePew House and what I have been doing there.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
After all the snow is gone and the weather has become nicer, I finally had a chance to visit another site.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
This is the site, <a href="http://www.orangetownmuseum.com/#!salyer-house/c61i" target="_blank">the Salyer House</a>.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjpOWt9fbVDrgg78PU2wGHgaLMzTR5iB-at0elgWL0YFvjWphTU-Drpm8pbr3fXf34GJX_k90vWh4yPbiHEU_Zfu3To3FaEfniwWx7fTk0drNfl8ckO0wjB_js5R0uOj_XKlwrlJvXPmk4z/s1600/20160309_1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="225" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjpOWt9fbVDrgg78PU2wGHgaLMzTR5iB-at0elgWL0YFvjWphTU-Drpm8pbr3fXf34GJX_k90vWh4yPbiHEU_Zfu3To3FaEfniwWx7fTk0drNfl8ckO0wjB_js5R0uOj_XKlwrlJvXPmk4z/s400/20160309_1.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
Like the DePew House, this building is also a preserved historical architecture.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiy_ckl2LIgy7b1w7YNtRg0aikVOpwxBqg5eTlYtRn5Z_5SssT7EBqXc68bc-_VeYUurRkoWs1B_9aanroMebmGiL6HmCMufJeQa_h-EzovqKYb10ygUTTaRXu2pNa9omEQBiFxRIA0lqsd/s1600/20160309_2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="225" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiy_ckl2LIgy7b1w7YNtRg0aikVOpwxBqg5eTlYtRn5Z_5SssT7EBqXc68bc-_VeYUurRkoWs1B_9aanroMebmGiL6HmCMufJeQa_h-EzovqKYb10ygUTTaRXu2pNa9omEQBiFxRIA0lqsd/s400/20160309_2.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
The Salyer House was built in the late 18th century, so... this old Dutch house has been here for almost 300 years.<br />
<br />
It is located facing a reservoir in Pearl River, NY and has a beautiful exterior with its stone walls.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjD2L6-T7l9dnlZPlut0ap7vBlifHnlIcHWAifUYMRXqCrb0ZjLbT92G949-RGnB4odN0NYgOhsiYFA3dFgd_nF47vdzBn8dzfWqSq5RekwFjCTWLGa4qzcGBnkw0i1a2rp-YEvwOodmwzb/s1600/20160309_3.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="225" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjD2L6-T7l9dnlZPlut0ap7vBlifHnlIcHWAifUYMRXqCrb0ZjLbT92G949-RGnB4odN0NYgOhsiYFA3dFgd_nF47vdzBn8dzfWqSq5RekwFjCTWLGa4qzcGBnkw0i1a2rp-YEvwOodmwzb/s400/20160309_3.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
The former owner donated this house to the Town Of Orangetown in 1992. Supported by volunteers' effort, the town opened this site as a museum in 1996.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEituL9gaKH_bl-gbN4qt9KfI_9NUYAMCgxucPsM-FbLC1tOB_h3O5pJfS-9r4rEuaRcdbwtoEF5A7XshljXwvM6wYTg-8Pxi_AHgJEMT5pibqJ5dnM70fhRkMrkMykeef9jxNhr6lmHoToX/s1600/20160309_4.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="225" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEituL9gaKH_bl-gbN4qt9KfI_9NUYAMCgxucPsM-FbLC1tOB_h3O5pJfS-9r4rEuaRcdbwtoEF5A7XshljXwvM6wYTg-8Pxi_AHgJEMT5pibqJ5dnM70fhRkMrkMykeef9jxNhr6lmHoToX/s400/20160309_4.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
Although it is not open to the public right now, in this season, the Salyer House has museum gallery space with historical objects and wall texts on its first floor.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiqDzzedUCeybdy8J5Ye7f4wmSWv3Q1wZB10gySt7SxX73xBFtrC8KVHYezE-oyjQTN2H3jaduOFLHAPwsn1Bb6N7hyphenhyphen_BWHFnrMWYglJnJmpaEx9X8Ns1b8gaBWgfPoHDRystMZYtSUoijM/s1600/20160309_5.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="225" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiqDzzedUCeybdy8J5Ye7f4wmSWv3Q1wZB10gySt7SxX73xBFtrC8KVHYezE-oyjQTN2H3jaduOFLHAPwsn1Bb6N7hyphenhyphen_BWHFnrMWYglJnJmpaEx9X8Ns1b8gaBWgfPoHDRystMZYtSUoijM/s400/20160309_5.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
It is very quiet and the museum objects are stored in the building, but the gallery will be reorganized and lively once the museum starts an exhibition here.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjOT8brmhdzjehJA19CgwYvxZlGt3YndJDORpTf_7sbRw6_SoN0wdhpoN_5-LoZZLoXL4mLPiRJHusZB2z37QHZYxW5CjJS5nsPXnpRSHuzcDHRUVjlzuEiI_hL-4RDDPG9YlWs6ZSzaJKm/s1600/20160309_6.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="225" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjOT8brmhdzjehJA19CgwYvxZlGt3YndJDORpTf_7sbRw6_SoN0wdhpoN_5-LoZZLoXL4mLPiRJHusZB2z37QHZYxW5CjJS5nsPXnpRSHuzcDHRUVjlzuEiI_hL-4RDDPG9YlWs6ZSzaJKm/s400/20160309_6.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
I just imagine this place will have a great atmosphere with these Dutch doors open for nice fresh air from the reservoir and back-yard forest, when the museum is in season and open to the public on a day with beautiful weather♪<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhuybDZCWXGeT4c7A5f2cMv8XsLo1BxfFz05UAVyZsTNy4THMRvjX-mDXpMOmUlOGRIK8CmK5hcm68KG_MS0vu42q_5FRrMWaBuZ9cEz1iyDT25Ou8OCwio7EUIl4DFw5saOKpHVe68E2DH/s1600/20160309_7.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="225" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhuybDZCWXGeT4c7A5f2cMv8XsLo1BxfFz05UAVyZsTNy4THMRvjX-mDXpMOmUlOGRIK8CmK5hcm68KG_MS0vu42q_5FRrMWaBuZ9cEz1iyDT25Ou8OCwio7EUIl4DFw5saOKpHVe68E2DH/s400/20160309_7.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
The upstairs of the building has multiple rooms which are used as archive rooms. Most of the objects acquired by the museum are examined and stored here. The acquisitions are carefully wrapped and placed in boxes here when they are not on view.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhQfpSlIwZAjmGXD6IHQEKfnwmqbtgahnPfxCBxZ9vR90zgDGFrKoFFamDtNwQzFBracl0QfSV2zMlE24yUf6IEgV9cVmchVRRP1F7ZiPIguSrgnZ-uQNDnboYnPWywgRN7YgKey50_WJ8e/s1600/20160309_8.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="225" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhQfpSlIwZAjmGXD6IHQEKfnwmqbtgahnPfxCBxZ9vR90zgDGFrKoFFamDtNwQzFBracl0QfSV2zMlE24yUf6IEgV9cVmchVRRP1F7ZiPIguSrgnZ-uQNDnboYnPWywgRN7YgKey50_WJ8e/s400/20160309_8.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
The digital archive work I introduced in <a href="http://museumdoors.blogspot.com/2016/03/learning-digital-archive-software.html" target="_blank">my last pos</a>t is directly connected with this storage area.<br />All the objects have their own call numbers and description registered in the archive system "PastPerfect." They are sorted by the numbers and found with them labeled on the boxes.<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
I assume that I will have more chance to come to this place later in my internship time as we work more on the new exhibition installation.<br /><br />It was definitely exciting to visit the Salyer House and see inside the building for the first time!<br />

<br />Masako Birminghamhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16526588675993168709noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8655002609391863363.post-64150387174853858132016-03-01T22:34:00.000-05:002016-03-01T22:35:35.042-05:00Learning the Digital Archive Software "PastPerfect"<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
One of the objectives of my internship at the <a href="http://www.orangetownmuseum.com/" target="_blank">Orangetown Historical Museum and Archives</a> is mastering the digital archives software "<a href="http://www.museumsoftware.com/" target="_blank">PastPerfect</a>."</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
This is a task to input information of the museum's historical objects which can be documents, artifacts, photography etc., and organize it in the computer system, so that each object can be called when they are needed.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Every single object the museum acquires has a unique number. With the number, we need to input, for example, date, material, size, description, name of the creator etc.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Yes, this is like numbers found on a spine of library books and information about these books loaded in book search system on computer.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Organizing the digital archive is one of the museum works as well.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
With my electric dictionary on a side, I sometimes spend my day in front of a computer in order to practice archiving. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhk4e_dpRJ71PlkfVQDge8WvLsphnTWYcScoo4ZZTeDEmSXeBT4sYHvnmcSrrIBvoTueI0-I47AXBNqDAn88nfxTkq86v-KWkI0-b5UYu4qwEszIY-D1eDSwxt8IM0bVBcrnMRtpPfAkCMC/s1600/03012016_1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="225" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhk4e_dpRJ71PlkfVQDge8WvLsphnTWYcScoo4ZZTeDEmSXeBT4sYHvnmcSrrIBvoTueI0-I47AXBNqDAn88nfxTkq86v-KWkI0-b5UYu4qwEszIY-D1eDSwxt8IM0bVBcrnMRtpPfAkCMC/s400/03012016_1.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Recently, I have worked on some files of printed objects which were used as information or illustration for a history book "Tappan 300 Years."</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Trained by my excellent mentor at the internship, I went over the materials in the files, input the summary and description, and organized them in a collection.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjfHUWuFrWTLYn6ht23w7Lgts8VWAEyRqe7ieU5_X_MQe6GdXlyo1bmGLzNi3oa79XCnqRS2LLznAjsXXNCaNcEPfdDLGFEaPffwCQ5TPAQX_f8ZyMd1Duxzy-0EhlloD5VjUN2V0McKEL1/s1600/03012016_2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="225" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjfHUWuFrWTLYn6ht23w7Lgts8VWAEyRqe7ieU5_X_MQe6GdXlyo1bmGLzNi3oa79XCnqRS2LLznAjsXXNCaNcEPfdDLGFEaPffwCQ5TPAQX_f8ZyMd1Duxzy-0EhlloD5VjUN2V0McKEL1/s400/03012016_2.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
As opposed to physical works such as hanging 30+ frames, digital archive requires more brain work... and an extensive vocabulary or nomenclature.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
This is a challenging objective for me, but I have been learning one by one and making a progress!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
It is exciting to think that my archiving will help other people call objects in the future and I also like organizing scattered information... so I can enjoy this brain work as well♪</div>

Since I started interning at the Orangetown Historical Museum and Archives last month, I have already been involved with many tasks of museum work;</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
One of them is installing frames.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
One day, I worked with the building manager, who is a super handy engineer who can fix anything at the museum, we kept attaching screws and wires to more than 30 frames. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhpkxkG_dBVYiqQ3WpH_957PJBE2ugzxOoTWUwFXiFwEnPER1Kfwxi-WBoLo8fW3uXMUrmEPjff01ImJYJttCsevHL1lv9yDq4xWG08NmriMLR4-wW7mMSPv4YknT9Er7ZHOgTzB931aLuh/s1600/022316_1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="225" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhpkxkG_dBVYiqQ3WpH_957PJBE2ugzxOoTWUwFXiFwEnPER1Kfwxi-WBoLo8fW3uXMUrmEPjff01ImJYJttCsevHL1lv9yDq4xWG08NmriMLR4-wW7mMSPv4YknT9Er7ZHOgTzB931aLuh/s400/022316_1.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
Then, I hung those frames on a gallery wall assisting my supervisor. She is the curator of the museum. So, we placed the frames discussing their height, positioning and balance in order to meet her vision.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhb9HpX9VAZ6HwXyXCZAqIQ8zLfK4ulD6gWB0OWSG3lcJwZ-sxsPb5FSXwGCqYV-sOiLZ1ZkxLwVYHW3K-fCZvl80SIQhyphenhyphenbTw4eEimlZ7Z-hf0_16tDQ19YtDa7e0PpSvnXqW_XYrdhgTwg/s1600/022316_3.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhb9HpX9VAZ6HwXyXCZAqIQ8zLfK4ulD6gWB0OWSG3lcJwZ-sxsPb5FSXwGCqYV-sOiLZ1ZkxLwVYHW3K-fCZvl80SIQhyphenhyphenbTw4eEimlZ7Z-hf0_16tDQ19YtDa7e0PpSvnXqW_XYrdhgTwg/s400/022316_3.jpg" width="225" /></a></div>
<br />
Those frames are all donated by one of the museum's generous donors. They are all unique in size, shape and color. <br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg_YCbIw6bNjVtrmVruSHDaIxRlEspKUNRDuKrXg7YMlzlpr0Z-3Yvg7x3_9lUbXE3Fi87ycn968NGqW_MU02D_v2p3Bl84oyg_E_yc91SRWJLJ6-U6SRH2fkzxTrbImPoR6njZPzpJez4G/s1600/022316_2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="225" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg_YCbIw6bNjVtrmVruSHDaIxRlEspKUNRDuKrXg7YMlzlpr0Z-3Yvg7x3_9lUbXE3Fi87ycn968NGqW_MU02D_v2p3Bl84oyg_E_yc91SRWJLJ6-U6SRH2fkzxTrbImPoR6njZPzpJez4G/s400/022316_2.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Still going...</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
Then finally, we hung all of the frames. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh3Pcl4nZrzuudYUGBLLT8KLcp3zTp8WEzUqUgcUNQN4STXR2EVWfJwVvisEHoktD87kOwPdYkwErb1Y_0wSdlbp_W34GGSMK0uSDp6AfpgC5e5TIBvWMeoXRVZQaWOzNpgq65Ni1K9afZs/s1600/022316_4a.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="225" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh3Pcl4nZrzuudYUGBLLT8KLcp3zTp8WEzUqUgcUNQN4STXR2EVWfJwVvisEHoktD87kOwPdYkwErb1Y_0wSdlbp_W34GGSMK0uSDp6AfpgC5e5TIBvWMeoXRVZQaWOzNpgq65Ni1K9afZs/s400/022316_4a.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
This is the view of the gallery right now♪ Post-its with some notes which indicate what is going to be shown there, are attached on to the blank frames.<br />
Exhibit material will be printed on a board, framed in each, and will fill the gallery wall in the next exhibition.<br />
<br />
<br />
Besides all those hung frames, there is a larger frame laying on a table in the gallery.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
The curator is up to something with this... ♪ I am looking forward to see what is going to happen to this beautiful piece♪</div>
<br />
<br />
In another gallery, different installation work is also proceeding.<br />

At the end of the day, I found this wooden object in one of the gallery spaces. It was placed near the window and caught my attention...<br />

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
The director told me this was the mortise and tenon which had been used for a building structure. Old Dutch immigrants built their houses (like the museum building) using this woodwork.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
The museum is now "Work in Progress" toward its next exhibition starting on May 7th.</div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I have been enjoying creating the exhibition as a part of the museum team! </div>

<br />
I created this blog to share the opportunity with my readers and allow them to peep behind-the-scenes of the museum...<br />
... and also to fulfill the requirement of my internship credit. (Blogging is a part of the internship program!)<br />
<br />
Thanks to my kind and supportive supervisor and the museum director, who encouraged me to photograph the museum scenes and post them here, this blog has been made possible.<br />
<br />
I will keep posting the pictures I take as I work at the museum during this semester.<br />
<br />
As the first post of this blog, I introduce the museum.<br />
This is where I intern!<br />

This museum, located in Orangeburg (in ROckland County), NY, was founded in 1992 to preserve and exhibit objects which tell the history of this local area: the Town of Orangetown.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
The museum building is a beautiful and historical Dutch-style sandstone house preserved by the town.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
In past exhibitions and research, stories from centuries ago in this town have been introduced by this history museum.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I have been working as an intern at this museum for three weeks, and I already love my intern days. This is a small museum compared to some famous ones in New York City, but I can communicate with other workers very closely, getting involved with various tasks of museum work.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I am so happy and excited about being a part of this museum!</div>

Thank you for reading my post!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
More stuff is coming next time.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
